Luckiest Pacers Win Yet
I (Drew) have been talking on the show and in the WHOP over last couple of days about my new favorite bet: Nets against-the-spread first half followed by throwing the resulting cash from that bet straight on their opponent to outright win the game. This is 2-0 since I developed the angle with some help from Cousin Sal who introduced this concept to me during the NFL season via his bets on the Steelers. He would consistently take them to lose the first half but win the game. I've reversed it for the Nets. They will cover the spread in the first half and the game but also find wonderful new ways to lose games they should win. Tonight it was Keon Johnson fouling Mathurin on a late game three-point attempt to take the lead. Mathurin would hit 2 of 3 to force OT, where the Pacers then did everything they could to lose via missing free-throws. I was sweating hard the entire time with Indy clinging to a one-possession lead throughout the frame. Then Cam Johnson turned on the jets and drove into the lane with a chance to tie the game with 18 seconds left.
He forgot about one man though....
Let me prepare my best Jack Armstrong voice real quick. AHEM. “GET THAT GAHBAGE OUTTA HERE!” Turner has been a defensive force this season averaging almost 2 blocks per-game, which is second only to Walker-Kessler on the Azz, but I don't count guys who are listed as healthy yet don't play in the game. Therefore, Turner is actually number one. That game clinching block was one of five he had tonight along with 23 points 10 rebounds. I thought he was the best all-around player for the Pacers.
Speaking of the Pacers, can this team get any luckier? They're way above the mean on these tight outcomes over the last 2-3 weeks. I don't think this can continue much longer. They've deserved to lose at least 3 of their last 4 wins now (Bucks, Wolves, and now Nets). Something to watch for as we move forward. Regression is coming. I will be selling Pacers and buying Nets when the rematch between them in Indiana goes on Saturday. Stay-tuned for that one, but I'll likely be on my favourite bet again. I'll make sure I tweet what I end up playing come tomorrow night and/or Saturday morning, so follow me @RantingJohnson on X/Twitter to get down on it!
As for bets for tomorrow, we've got a TON of them that we released in the WHOP chat tonight. After the slate the NBA spat at us yesterday (we ended up going 2-0 on small plays that were late adds to a blank card). It has been nice to find plenty of angles and plays to make on today's card, the best of which is on the Houston Rockets -5 (-110 @ FanDuel) visiting the Miami Heat. Rockets have been on a roll over the last two weeks. They've taken care of business consistently against bad and/or tanking teams. Miami definitely falls into those two categories at this point, so I expect another Rockets win and a cover. I would play this for .75u until the line climbs to -6, at which point decrease exposure to .5u and play that up to -6.5.
We've got all your in-depth breakdowns on every game tonight on our LIVE SHOW AT 10AM EST!! After how today's show went you better believe Mike, Ian, and I are chomping at the bit to have a BANGER tomorrow. Let's get down on it! See you at 10!
