Denver Nuggets -5 (0.75u)
Lakers @ Nuggets Un 227.5 (0.5u)
The season tips off with the ring ceremony for the reigning champs in Denver. I always like backing the opening night home team in what should be a raucous crowd in a great home court advantage that Denver presents. Both teams return the some core and key pieces, and we just saw these teams play 4 playoff games against one another, where Denver kept edging out the Lakers and swept. With the strong home court, the crazy crowd, and the roster edge, I like Denver to win and cover. Grabbing the 5 at DraftKings instead of the 5.5 at Fanduel is very important because 5 is the 2nd most common outcome in NBA games, making it a key NBA number for capping.
I also like the under for this game because in the playoffs, when the stars were playing 40 minutes of their best effort, the game total was priced around 222-224. I anticipate not a blazing pace to start the season, perhaps some rusted shooting, slower incorporation of the new smaller pieces, bench players taking more minutes and scoring less, and felt the total was priced too high. It has since ticked up a point, not ideal, but I donโt mind a small contrarian play here if you still want to get in on the under.
Golden State Warriors -1 (0.5u)
Another great home court advantage and playing into early season continuity. Despite not being with Draymond, the Warriors core group has played a lot of successful minutes together and been dominant every year in the Chase Center. Phoenix has a lot of new pieces, a new coach, and although dominant star power, they face really tough opening night competition. Beal was ruled out late, and the line dropped to -3. I think this line closes at -4.5 and dont even mind betting the -3 now. With only 0.5u of exposure here, I donโt have enough leverage in my exposure to open up buyback, Iโll just be letting my +CLV ticket rock knowing I got the sharp side and beat a news drop.
